Define the cabling standard in the scope
Specify cable category, permanent-link or channel testing, connector components, labelling convention and required certification standard before installation begins. Acceptance criteria should not be negotiated only after faults are discovered.
Test every installed link
Certification testing verifies characteristics including wire map, length, insertion loss and crosstalk against the selected standard. A basic continuity test is useful during installation but does not provide the same evidence as certification.
Make labels match records
Outlet, patch-panel and cabinet labels should map directly to the final schedule. Consistent identifiers reduce troubleshooting time and make later moves or switch changes significantly safer.
Retain electronic test results
The handover pack should include test files, failures and remediation, cabinet schedules and relevant drawings. This evidence matters when investigating intermittent faults or proving that the passive infrastructure met specification when delivered.
