Inventory responsibilities before transferring them

Map services, suppliers, support queues, infrastructure, privileged access, renewals and recurring operational work. Transition risk often sits in undocumented responsibilities rather than the obvious server and endpoint inventory.

Establish access through governed identities

Create named administrative identities, MFA, privileged-access controls and emergency procedures. Avoid inheriting shared passwords or permanent third-party accounts simply because they existed under the previous support model.

Agree how work will be measured

Define service hours, priorities, escalation, communication, service-level objectives and responsibility boundaries. Ticket closure volume alone does not show whether recurring issues are being removed or whether business services are becoming more reliable.

Use an explicit stabilisation period

Track unknowns, access gaps, recurring incidents and documentation defects during the first operating weeks. A structured stabilisation backlog converts transition findings into measurable improvements rather than accepting inherited problems as normal operations.
