BGP is valuable when an organisation needs explicit routing policy between autonomous systems, resilient internet connectivity, cloud edge routing or large-scale route exchange.
Design failure behaviour first
Define how routes should change during carrier, firewall, tunnel or site failures and what advertisements must never escape the intended boundary.
Monitor the control plane
Session state, route count, path changes and reachability should be monitored alongside the underlying circuits.
